Joensuu is the regional centre and the capital of North Karelia. The University of Eastern Finland and the North Karelia Technical School fill Joensuu with the liveliness of young people you find in university towns only. Every summer since 1971 Joensuu proudly hosts the massive Ilosaarirock Festival. Joensuu is also the locus for the international Festival of Visual Culture, the first in the world to stream their films to the Internet real-time. If you are into cross-country skiing, Joensuu has a whopping 270 km of trails waiting for you in the winter. 

Airport to city center transport

On weekdays (Mon-Fri) a bus departs after each airplane arrival. Tickets €5 for adults and €2.50 for children. Airport-taxi costs 20 € per person.
